Don’t be afraid of black and white. Be like Coco Chanel with Skvost

"Women think of all colors except the absence of color. I have said that black has it all...,” Coco Chanel is quoted as saying. This exceptional designer was not afraid to combine classic with modern. This alignment is exactly the basis for the jewellery design for the COCO collection from SKVOST.

Coco Chanel's designs are characterized by their timelessness. She was not afraid to bring a tweed costume and a "little black" dress to the female wardrobe in the early twentieth century. Her courage and genius totally changed the look of women's fashion.

Once upon a time, there was one "little black dress"

It was in October of 1926. The Roaring 20’s. The sounds of swing were everywhere and parties were wilder than ever before. Vogue magazine released a new issue and on the title page was written "a little black dress by Coco Chanel.”

The title page showed the drawing of a woman dressed in a simple black dress with pearls and high heels as the fashion accessories. The magazine introduced elegant clothing such as "The Ford,” referring to the then crazy popular Model T.

Parallels with the Model T are found at one point. About his car, Henry Ford said that it is available in any color ... as long as it's black.

We must be aware that it was a time when women's dresses held a place of honor in conversational topics, and they were not just "some pieces from a clearance sale.” Your dress used to put you in a certain social class and shape your position as a woman in public. That's why they were designed with luxury and color.

Therefore, the simple black women's dresses were something that went beyond all social and fashion standards.

Black doesn’t mean sadness

Prior to the 20’s, black fashion accessories and clothes were only linked with sadness and garments for servants. And it wasn’t only the color that was discussed. If you were dressed in simple and plain clothes, you risked outraging others or being accused of failing to respect traditions.

At the beginning of the 20th century, things began to move. Free style and informality began to sneak into the wardrobes of people in higher positions. Coco Chanel also contributed to this change.

In addition to the combination of black and white, Coco also came with other shocking fashion solutions, such as women's trousers, lighter textiles and jerseys, which worked to ensure that women would not only feel comfortable, but also look younger and be ready to deal with even more demanding, to-date "male" problems.

What Coco Chanel and SKVOST have in common

The Coco Chanel message was to bring luxury in simplicity to women’s jewellery and every woman. We have also used this inspiration in SKVOST when creating a collection in her name.

All the brooches from the collection are, in order to be in line with the concept, black and white. They retain a classic design and elegance, but due to their modesty, you can combine them with work clothes or just what you wear when you go for a cup of coffee with a friend. :)

As Chanel said: "Luxury must be comfortable, otherwise it is not a luxury." Don´t be afraid to combine the beauty of everyday life. With the COCO collection from SKVOST, you can also wear a regular outfit with grace.
